Since then, the Hervé family and their allies have given the town a countless number of elected representatives, mayors or town councillors. It was a cooper by the name of Edmond Olier who replanted the vineyards after they were wiped out by phylloxera. The very first ch&acirc;teau bottling dates back to 1890, which is almost certainly a record in the Fronsac region. Between the two World Wars, Edmond Olier’s son-in-law, Raoul Hervé, contributed to the excellent reputation of the wine. Today, it is his great grand nephew, Jean-No&euml;l Hervé, who passionately devotes all his energy to the future of Ch&acirc;teau Moulin Haut Laroque, making a point of maintaining the age of the vineyard.

Chateau Latour is a prime example, as although the extensive vineyards were not fully established until about 1670, the history of the estate itself dates back to at least the 14th Century.

What a difference a bottle makes. Double decanted in the morning, served from bottle with dinner. Tar, smoke, cinnamon and menthol on the nose, more like a northern Rhone. On the palate, green spice, licorice, currants, leather, blackberry and plum. This was a big-bodied wine with lots of tannins and acidity. It drank very young and I am glad I opened it in the morning. One of the better showings of this wine that I have had. The history of chateau(酒莊歷史): Ch&acirc;teau Pichon Baron was once part of a larger estate, owned by Pierre de Rauzan, along with Ch&acirc;teau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. In 1850 the estate was divided into the two current Pichon estates. In 1987 the estate was purchased by French insurance company AXA, who immediately appointed Jean-Michel Cazes of Ch&acirc;teau Lynch-Bages as administrator.

Green vegetables and blood orange on the nose. Blackberries, caramel and wet stone on the palate. Unfortunately, the tannins had dissipated and left the acidity to run the show, so despite the flavor profile, the wine felt very thin and weak in the mouth. I have had this wine 3 times in the past 4 months, 2 from the same case and none of the bottles had a wow moment. This wine may be past its peak.
